I see a picture from another time
it forces me to open up my eyes
I stare subconsciously into the sun
as if these images can burn undone

it's an infected and afflicting sore
it's so much deeper than it was before
i've learned to brace myself and bite my tongue to cut my losses and just carry on

when I walked in and found you on the floor, breathless and cold
you looked so peaceful as I felt my war harshly unfold
in my mind, undefied, you left me alone

I saw a picture of another place
I couldn't help but recognize that face
and I denied it even though I knew
that happy person is what once was you
