of midnight's exhaust
we spat syllables
stumbled and swayed

when from the back room shadows
the wolves slunk towards the street
pack snapping and snarling stalking carbonated prey

and ceasing all revel
the crowd gathered and frothed
as blood in the air
put teeth in their eyes

I sat inside jawed
in righteous disdain
shaking and slurping

cloaked by howling contempt
chocked by the scowling exempt
pulled to the mouth of visceral needand drawn to the working of thieves
